[origin: WO2013127991A1] The subject matter of the invention is an appliance coupler (1) for electrically connecting an electric vehicle to a charging device, comprising a plug having a plug face (4) or comprising a socket (5) and an electromechanically driven locking device (6), wherein the plug or the socket (5) is designed to establish an electrical connection with a second socket or a second plug, respectively, of a cable plug (2) associated with the electric vehicle or the charging device, wherein the locking device (6) can be moved between a locking position and an unlocking position axially or radially relative to the plugging direction (7) of the plug or the socket (5) in order to mechanically lock or unlock a plug/socket pair (5), wherein the appliance coupler (1) has a cover (3) which can be moved for closing the plug face (4) of the plug or the socket (5), said cover (3) being designed such that the plug or the socket (5) cannot be connected, in the closed state of the cover (3), to a second socket and/or a second plug, respectively, and said appliance coupler has a mechanical actuating device (14) designed to interact with the locking device (6) and the cover (3) such that the actuating device (14) stops the closed cover (3) from opening when the locking device is in the locking position.
