Abstract (en)
[origin: WO2013131937A1] The present invention relates to a cast light metal piston (1), in particular an aluminium piston (1) for an internal combustion engine (16), having a piston crown (2) and having a piston skirt (3) which adjoins said piston crown and which has two skirt walls (4, 5) arranged on the pressure side (DS) and on the counterpressure side (GDS) and which has two box walls (6, 7) connecting said skirt walls (4, 5), which box walls taper conically toward one another in the direction of the piston crown (2). Here, it is essential to the invention - that the piston (1) has an annularly encircling cooling duct (9), and - that a thickness (d) of the piston crown (2) is at most 4.5 mm. In this way, it is possible to produce a high-performance, lightweight piston (1).
