[origin: WO2013149764A1] The invention relates to an illumination apparatus for a motor vehicle, comprising a light source (2) consisting of a number of laser diodes, and an optical device (4) for generating a predefined light distribution from the light of the light source (2), said optical device being arranged in a housing (3). The illumination apparatus of the invention is characterized in that a heat sink (5) is provided and is designed in such a way as to absorb heat generated during operation of the light source (2) essentially without making use of the internal air from the interior of the housing and give off the absorbed heat to the external air from outside the housing (3) essentially without making use of the internal air.
