[origin: WO2013175091A1] The invention concerns an internal combustion engine (1) comprising an air intake manifold (8), an exhaust manifold (17), a plurality of cylinders (2.1-2.4) each having a combustion chamber (5.1-5.4), and a recirculation conduit (22) capable of reinjecting all the exhaust gases from the combustion chamber (5.4) of at least one of the cylinders (2.4), referred to as the EGR-dedicated cylinder, into the air intake manifold (8). According to the invention, the engine (1 ) further comprises a control system (40, 41) configured to temporarily inhibit combustion inside the combustion chamber (5.4) of the EGR-dedicated cylinder (2.4). The invention also relates to the associated method for controlling the recirculation of gases.
