Abstract (en)

[origin: EP2857122A1] A method of continuously casting a strand is characterized by using a movable reduction roll unit including rolls capable of reduction-rolling a strand and movable in a vertical direction from a mold along the strand, wherein, after the withdrawing of the strand is completed, the rolls are moved in a vertical direction and accordingly reduction-roll the stopped strand. The move of the rolls while reduction-rolling the strand may be in a vertically upward direction. In addition, the transverse cross section of the strand may be of a circular shape. With this continuous casting method, it is possible to reduce centerline cavities and porosity in a central region of a strand and shrinkage cavities and centerline cavities in an upper portion of the strand, regardless of the size of its cross sectional area, at a low equipment cost and without causing deterioration of the surface quality.
