Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2014009123A1] The disclosed weld head has a mounting position for holding a self-contained and replaceable spring assembly which, in the mounted position, is arranged in the power flow between the drive unit and the electrode. The mounted position of the spring assembly offers great flexibility in terms of the range of required spring forces. The weld head can thus be easily and quickly retooled to substitute one method for another one. All it takes to do that is to place a suitable spring assembly in the mounted position. It is not absolutely necessary to carry out other mounting steps such as screwing parts together. The spring assembly that is mounted in the weld head has the advantage of controlling the slipping path of the weld head while keeping the welding force nearly constant during the entire process. The spring assembly thus allows for an optimal and very quick slipping behavior of the electrode during the welding process. The weld head can therefore be used for highly complex welding operations with nonferrous metals. Furthermore, the compact design allows the weld head to be used as the basic feature of a platform concept using said resource. In addition, the movable electrode allows the weld head to be used for various material flow systems such as slider mounts, rotary tables, or workpiece holders.
