Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2503257A] A cleaning appliance of the cylinder type comprises a separating apparatus 4 for separating dirt from a dirt-bearing fluid flow, a floor engaging rolling assembly 6, the rolling assembly 6 comprising a main body 8 and a pair of floor engaging wheels 10, the most rearward point 32 of the separating apparatus 4 being arranged in line with or rearward of the centre point 34 of the wheels 10. The rolling assembly 6 allows the appliance to roll on its side or rear surfaces when the cleaning appliance is toppled over from an upright position. The separating apparatus 4 preferably includes a first cyclonic separation unit 4 upstream for a second, more efficient, cyclonic separation unit 84. The separating apparatus 4 may be removably received in a recess of the rolling assembly 6, with the rolling assembly 6 being spheroid or spherical in shape and arranged to urge itself, preferably by the position of its centre of gravity, to return to its upright position if it is tipped over.
