[origin: EP2690050A1] The lift cabin (1) has a spacer (8) which is brought into a maintenance position to provide barrier at a safe distance from passing lift components (18), when a panel (5) is opened. A safety device monitors whether the panel is in the normal position and the spacer is located in the maintenance position. The safety device blocks normal travel as well as inspection travel of the lift cabin, when the panel is not located in the normal position and the spacer is not located in the maintenance position, and enables the inspection travel if the spacer is located in the standby position.
