Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2014016156A1] The invention relates to a device (1) for protecting a component (EB) to be protected from thermal overload. The device (1) has an actuating unit (B) which, when it is in service, is brought into thermal contact with the component (EB) to be protected and which is capable of actuating a switch (S) when a defined temperature (Tschalt) is reached. The switch (S) can be used both as a disconnect switch and as a short-circuit switch in relation to the component (EB) to be protected, the switch (S) additionally having a selection unit (A) with which it is possible to select whether the switch (S) is to be used as a disconnect switch or as a short-circuit switch in relation to the component (EB) to be protected.
