[origin: WO2014044317A1] The present invention provides a regulated power supply assembly and a method for operating the same suitable for use in an electrical switch. The electrical switch includes an electromagnetic assembly configured to operate said electrical switch in one of an open position and a closed position thereof and effect a transition there between. In accordance with the present invention, an output voltage provided to the electromagnetic assembly is switched based on a switching control signal such that an excitation current is established in the electromagnetic assembly. The excitation current established in the electromagnetic assembly is successively sampled. The switching control signal is generated based on comparing an instantaneous sample of the excitation current with a threshold current reference and/or at least one preceding sample of the excitation current.
