[origin: GB2505209A] A dose counter for a metered dose inhaler comprises a housing having a first portion 210 configured to receive a metered dose inhaler canister 20 and a second portion 230 including an electrical assembly and an actuation detection assembly comprising an actuation detection element 240, which may be of a piezoelectric or PVDF material which generates an output when subject to compression, force and/or deformation, and a second element in the form of a biasing element 300 or optional activation plate 310 and which are spaced apart by a gap in a rest position but are in contact and generate an actuation detection output to an electrical assembly for indexing the dose counter when in an actuation detection position. Also disclosed is a power-conserving arrangement (figures 9-11) in which a tab (236) prevents contact between a battery (420) and a contact (426) until moved by a pin (54) upon first actuation of the metered-dose inhaler.
