Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2014032659A1] The invention relates to a coupling element for coupling to one another two containers which are stacked one on top of the other, in particular on board ships, having an upper coupling protrusion (10), which engages in a lower corner fitting of the upper container, and having a lower coupling protrusion (11), which engages in an upper corner fitting of the lower container and has a lateral coupling lug (22), as seen in the longitudinal direction of the containers, and a vertical rear wall (21), arranged on that side of the lower coupling protrusion (11) which is opposite the coupling lug (22), such that the distance (b) between a free edge (25) of the coupling lug (22) and the rear wall (21) is smaller than or equal to the width of an upper slotted hole in the upper corner fitting. In order for two containers which are stacked one on top of the other to be coupled securely even when subjected to purely tensile forces, the coupling element according to the invention is characterized in that the lower coupling protrusion (11), in the rear wall (21), has a recess (26) which extends in the form of a groove over the entire length of the lower coupling protrusion (11).
