[origin: WO2014049267A1] The method for playing back a multichannel audio signal (S), on a playback device (2) comprising a plurality of loudspeakers (2-l,...,2-N) arranged in fixed positions on the device and defining a spatial window of sound reproduction relative to a reference spatial position, comprises: — a spatial analysis of the audio signal comprising, for at least one sound object extracted from the signal, the estimation of a diffuse or localised character of this object and of the position thereof relative to the window; and — the playing back of the audio signal on the loudspeakers of the device during which a playback treatment (T-Al, T-A2,T-B,T-C) is applied to each sound object on at least one loudspeaker of the device, depending on the diffuse or localised character of the object and the position thereof relative to the window, and comprising the creation of at least one virtual source outside the window from the loudspeakers of the device, when the object is estimated to be diffuse or positioned outside the window.
