Abstract (en)
[origin: EP2903182A1] According to an aspect the invention relates to a device for diagnosing faults in a passive optical network or PON. The PON connects an optical line termination or OLT with optical network terminals or ONTs. The device is further configured to execute several steps. In a first step, power values indicative for an amount of signal power lost or received in respective optical links connecting the ONTs with the OLT are collected. Then, in a second step, a subset (31) of the power values indicative for a respective subset of the respective optical links providing a best performance in received or lost power is determined. In a third step, a reference power value (34) is determined from this subset (31). In a last step, an optical link in the PON is marked as faulty if a power value for this optical link is worse than the determined reference power value (34).
