[origin: WO2014083190A1] The invention relates to a switching device (1), particularly a protective switch, comprising a first contact gap (2) and a second contact gap (3) that each have break contacts (4), said switching device (1) comprising a switching mechanism (5) and a trip coil (6), the switching mechanism (5) being connected to the break contacts (4), the trip coil (6) being connected to the first contact gap (2) so as to form a circuit, by means of a first connection line (7), and said trip coil (6) being connected to the second contact gap (3) by means of a second connection line (8) that has an actuation element (9) arranged therein. According to the invention, the first connection line (7) is connected to the second connection line (8) by means of a varistor (10).
