Abstract (en)
A data carrier is disclosed comprising one or more elements comprising symbols, text, graphics or combinations thereof arranged on a surface. The elements are arranged on the surface as microscopic surface irregularities including protrusions, recesses or protrusions and recesses as compared to other parts of the element. The elements comprise areas having recesses or protrusions, such that said recesses or protrusions have different recess depths/protrusion heights at the different areas of the element, and the one or more areas are visible to a viewer only at predetermined angles of light reflection at least partly deviating from the other areas. Alternatively, the recesses or protrusions may have different grating directions at the different areas of the element, wherein the one or more areas are visible to a viewer only at predetermined angles of light reflection at least partly deviating from the other areas.
