[origin: WO2014096715A1] The invention relates to a food chopping appliance comprising: a frame (1); a cover (6) including a feed tube (5) into which foods are inserted; a chopping tool (10) that performs a reciprocating movement; operating means (36) for operating the chopping tool (10), comprising an electric motor (38); and control means for controlling the electric motor (38), comprising a control member (69). According to the invention: the control member (69) is placed on the cover (6); the cover (6) can be placed in a locked position on the frame (1), in which position the cover (6) covers the chopping tool (10); and the control means of the electric motor (38) are configured such that the control member (69) can be actuated in order to start the electric motor (38) when the cover (6) is in the locked position.
