Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2014095234A1] The invention relates to a method for operating an internal combustion engine, in particular a diesel engine or Otto-cycle engine, in particular of a motor vehicle, having an external exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) arrangement, wherein a closing time (50) of inlet valves of the internal combustion engine is varied. Here, the closing time (50) of the inlet valves is delayed to a time after a bottom dead centre of the intake stroke and the external exhaust-gas recirculation arrangement is regulated such that either an EGR mass or an EGR rate remains constant.
