[origin: WO2014095404A1] The invention relates to a valve device for a motor vehicle with: a housing 1; a flow duct 2 situated in the housing 1; a flap 3 arranged in the flow duct 2 in order to close off the flow duct 2, wherein the flap 3 has regions in which a shaft 4 penetrating the flap 3 is fastened and the shaft 4 is rotatably mounted in the housing 1; and a valve seat 8 arranged in the flow duct 2, said valve seat 8 being in contact with the flap 3 in the closed position thereof. At least one portion of the flow duct 2 adjacent to the valve seat 8 has a cross-section smaller than the inside diameter of the valve seat 8.
