Items of seating furniture (10) in the form of a sofa or armchair are known, said items comprising a base (20), a seating unit (30), a backrest unit (40) comprising a back contact surface (42), and a headrest unit (50) comprising a head contact surface (54), wherein the headrest unit (50) can be moved between a storage position and an operating position, in which the head contact surface (54) is substantially flush to the back contact surface (42). The invention proposes that the headrest unit (50) is arranged in the storage position in such a way that the head contact surface (54) is fully arranged behind the back contact surface (42) and below the top edge (42a) of said back contact surface. 2.2. The invention proposes that the headrest unit (50) can be pivoted about a headrest rotation axis (4) fixed to the base (20) along a non-linear movement path, or can be moved along a linear movement path opposite the base, and that the backrest unit (40) of the item of furniture can be moved along a second movement path deviating from the non-linear or linear movement path of said headrest unit (50), opposite the base, and is provided for manual moving, wherein the movement of the backrest unit (40) is coupled to the movement of the headrest unit (50) via a movement mechanism of said headrest unit.
