[origin: WO2014111334A2] The invention relates to a method for insulating covering of a metal melt, wherein a granulate comprising silicon-oxide is poured onto the surface of the metal melt. According to the invention, the granulate comprises kieselguhr. The invention further relates to a granulate comprising kieselguhr as a covering agent for a metal melt, a method for producing the granulate from a filter cake comprising kieselguhr and the use of a filter material comprising up to 90% kieselguhr in the dry mass for producing a granulate for insulating covering of a metal melt.
