[origin: WO2014124545A1] The invention relates to a method for heating a paver screed (10) equipped with a heating device. The heating device has electric heating elements (2) which are supplied with an electric current by means of a current generator (1) in order to generate the heat. The electric voltage (U) which is supplied to the heating elements (2) is changed in order to change the heating output of the heating device. The electric voltage applied to the respective heating element (2) is thus increased or decreased in order to control or regulate the heating output. In this manner, an energy-efficient operation is made possible, and the service life of the heating elements (2) as well as of the generator (1) can be substantially increased. The motor which drives the generator (1) is likewise spared, and fuel is also saved when using an internal combustion engine, for example a diesel engine.
