[origin: WO2014124799A1] The invention relates to a method for operating a device (1) for providing a liquid additive having at least one suction point (17) for removing liquid additive from a tank (2), a valve-free conveying line (6) extending from the suction point (17) to a supply unit (3), and a valve-free displacement pump (4). The displacement pump (4) is configured to convey the liquid additive from the tank (2) via the suction point (17) along the conveying line (6) to the supply unit (3), wherein the displacement unit (4) has at least one seal (19) of the conveying line (6), which can be displaced along the conveying line (6) for conveying the liquid additive. In the method, an operation stop of the device (1) is determined in step a); in step b), a position (45) of the seal (19) inside the displacement pump (4) is determined, and in step c), the position (45) of the seal (19) is changed if the position (45) of the seal does not correspond to an intended parking position (44).
