The image display apparatus is provided with: a controlling device (13) configured to control the light source to change an irradiation period of the light beam with respect to a pixel drawing period, which is a period for drawing each of a plurality of pixel data corresponding to the image to be displayed, on the basis of luminance of a one-frame image to be displayed.
