Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2512500A] A superhard polycrystalline construction includes a body of polycrystalline superhard material comprising a superhard phase 32, and a non-superhard phase 33 dispersed in the superhard phase, the superhard phase 32 comprising a plurality of inter-bonded superhard grains. The non-superhard phase 33 comprises particles or grains 30 that do not chemically react with the superhard grains and form less than around 10 volume % of the body of polycrystalline superhard material. The super hard phase may be polycrystalline diamond and the particles may be oxides of alumina, yttria, silica or tantalum. A method of forming the body involves sintering the materials at a pressure of 5.5 GPa or greater.
