[origin: WO2014161586A1] There is provided a method, comprising: applying, by a base station, an operational channel bandwidth to be used in data transmission, wherein the applied operational channel band- width is selected from a set of predetermined available operational channel bandwidths; allocating, within the applied operational channel bandwidth, resource blocks, each comprising a plurality of resource elements, for downlink data transmission to at least one user equipment, wherein the allocated resource blocks comprise at least one resource block but less than the number of resource blocks of the applied operational channel bandwidth; and transmitting cell-specific reference symbols in the downlink in a subset of those resource elements of the applied operational channel bandwidth which are reserved for cell-specific reference symbol transmissions, the subset comprising at least the reserved resource elements in the allocated resource blocks.
