[origin: CA2906978A1] The invention relates to a catering system (1) comprising at least one working area (2) for cooking and/or preparing meals and/or drinks, and at least one guest area (3), the working area (2) and the guest area (3) being connected via a transport system (4) for meals and/or drinks. The transport system (4) is designed to transport meals and/or drinks from the working area (2) to the guest area (3) and the transport system (4) comprises at least one first transport section (5), in at least some sections of which the meals and/or drinks are transported from the working area (2) to the guest area (3) by gravity. The invention is characterised in that the transport system (4) has a second transport section (6) situated upstream of the first transport section (5) in a designated transport direction (A) for the meals and/or drinks, the second transport section (6) having an elevator (7) which is designed to transport the meals and/or drinks into a higher position in relation to the guest area (3). The invention also relates to a method for operating a catering system according to the invention.
