[origin: WO2014177619A1] The invention relates to an operating table (30) and a method for an operating table (30), wherein at least one adjustable component (32 to 46) of the operating table (30) is adjusted by means of an electric drive unit (70). An adjustment position of the component (32 to 46) is detected by means of a first sensor unit (86). In a first operating mode of a control unit (52), the first sensor unit (86) is activated and the drive unit (70) can be activated by means of the operating element (14 to 28) in order to adjust the component (32 to 46). In a second operating mode of the control unit (52), at least the first sensor unit (86) is deactivated and a second sensor unit (90) is activated in order to monitor a change in the adjustment position of the component (32 to 46). A switch from the first to the second operating mode is made if the drive unit (70) has not been activated for a preset time period. Furthermore, a switch from the second to the first operating mode is made if a change in the adjustment position of the component (32 to 46) is detected by the second sensor unit (90).
