[origin: WO2015028387A2] The invention relates to a method for operating a fossil-fueled steam power plant (1) and to a fossil-fueled steam power plant (1) having a water-steam circuit (2), a cooling water circuit (6), a flue gas cleaning system (8) and a cooling tower (7). A fossil-fueled steam generator (3), a steam turbine (4) and a condenser (5) are connected to the water-steam circuit (2). In the cooling water circuit (6), a cooling tower (7) and the condenser (5) are connected such that expanded steam from the water-steam circuit (2) can be condensed in the condenser (5) by the exchange of heat with the cooling water circuit. The flue gas from the fossil-fueled steam generator (3) is cleaned in the flue gas cleaning system (8), to which end the flue gas cleaning system (8) is supplied with process water (9). Process wastewater (10) leaves the flue gas cleaning system (8). According to the invention, the flue gas cleaning system (8) is connected to the cooling water circuit (6) in such a way that the process water required for the flue gas cleaning system (8) can be drawn from the cooling water circuit (6). To remove contaminated process wastewater (11), the flue gas cleaning installation (8) is connected to a wastewater treatment system (13) which comprises an evaporator (12), by means of which system purified process wastewater (14) can be generated.
