[origin: GB2515799A] A method for operating a vehicle, the method comprising monitoring for at least one door opening signal indicating that a door, preferably the drivers door, of the vehicle has been opened, and automatically starting an engine of the vehicle in dependence on receiving the at least one door opening signal. By starting the vehicle engine automatically, a vehicle start-up procedure can be completed, at least in part, whilst a user is entering the vehicle. The doors are preferably unlocked using a remote device which may be passive or active. If an electric parking brake is disengaged it may be engaged prior to starting the engine. The vehicle may be powered by a conventional combustion engine, hybrid, electric, fuel cell or fuelled with compressed gas.
