The false twisting device (9) has at least one driven belt, which runs substantially transversely to the thread (3), and the thread (3) wraps around two runs (4, 5), running in opposite directions, of the belt(s), in particular in a z- or s-shaped manner. A compacting device (23) for compressing the drawn thread (3) is assigned to the drawing system (20), and the compacting device (23) is arranged between the main drawing field of the drawing system (20) and the false twisting device (9).
