[origin: CN105691689A] The present invention describes a strapping head and a method of handling a strapping band. The strapping head is provided with a band guiding channel, a band conveyer device and a tensioning device. The band guiding channel comprises a band guiding frame arranged or arrangeable circumferentially around an article group. The band conveyer device comprises a roller pair, and a strapping band is driven to be led in a roller gap of the roller pair. An end of the band guiding channel is provided with a first detector, once a forward end of the strapping band in the entering direction in the band guiding frame reaches an end of an entry path on or close to the end of the band guiding channel, the first detector is triggered. A second detector monitors a roller spacing of the roller pair. According to specification of the method, the width of the roller gap is monitored so as to determine whether the strapping band is present or not in the roller gap. In the case of an error entry, the strapping band is retracted with the same length of the strapping band present in the roller gap, and the forward end of the strapping band does not reach the end of the band guiding channel when entry is error. The retraction ends as soon as the strapping band is no longer present in the roller gap.
