Abstract (en)
[origin: GB2517479A] A protective cap 8 is disclosed which is used for preventing impalement injury on reinforcement bars 17 (rebar), comprising a tubular socket to receive an end of a length of rebar, the socket being attached to a sleeve 11 defining a channel to receive and enclose a length of timber. The caps may have a releasable gripper (19, figure 5) to grip the end of rebar. Preferably, the gripper is screwed through a thread at the side of the socket to push the rebar into the opposing internal side of the socket (figure 6). Preferably, the sleeve completely encloses (i.e. completely encircles) a standard size timber. The cross-section of the channel may be rectangular and the external edges of the sleeve may be rounded. In use, not all rebars require a protective cap since the inserted timber acts as protection.
