Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2015028159A1] The invention relates to a device for automatically unwinding web-shaped materials (8) from a parent roll (3) and to a method for operating such a device. The device comprises an input arm (2) and a first drive unit (6), wherein the parent roll (3) is rotatably supported on the input arm (2) by means of a winding core (4) of the parent roll and the first drive unit (6) serves to apply a driving force to the parent roll (3). In order to achieve high productivity, the unwinder (1) has a removal arm (13), with which a second drive unit (14) for applying a driving force to the parent roll (3) is associated, wherein the parent roll (3) can be transferred from the input arm (2) onto the removal arm (13) during an unwinding process. The material web (8) is then unwound from the parent roll (3) supported on the input arm (2) down to a specifiable minimum diameter, wherein the parent roll (3) is then transferred onto the removal arm (13) during the ongoing unwinding process and is actively unwound further there, wherein a new parent roll (3') is received by the input arm (2). Thus, uninterrupted unwinding is enabled.
