Provided further is a method for recommending a function that can be provided through each device when a rule is defined. A method for controlling another device by a gateway device is provided. The method includes recording device state information received from a second device group during a recording period; extracting common device state information; and requesting that a first device group executes a user operation corresponding to user operation information.
