[origin: WO2017088074A1] In order to illuminate the cooking chamber (2) in a cooking device in a user-friendly manner, a cavity (9) that expands the volume of the cooking chamber (2) is arranged on at least one side wall (4) of the cooking chamber (2). A light source (13), which is arranged outside the cooking chamber (2), emits light into an optical waveguide (12), by means of which the light is deflected into the cavity (9). The cavity (9) and the optical waveguide (12) are designed in such a way that a main radiation direction of the light traveling from the cavity (9) into the rest of the cooking chamber is directed away from a door of the cooking chamber (2).

Um den Garraum (2) in einem Gargerät benutzerfreundlich auszuleuchten, ist an mindestens einer Seitenwand (4) des Garraums (2) eine Kavität (9) angeordnet, welche den Garraum (2) in seinem Volumen erweitert. Eine Lichtquelle (13), welche ausserhalb des Garraums (2) angeordnet ist, emittiert Licht in einen Lichtleiter (12), durch welchen das Licht in die Kavität (9) umgelenkt wird. Die Kavität (9) und der Lichtleiter (12) sind derart ausgestaltet, dass eine Hauptabstrahlrichtung des aus der Kavität (9) in den restlichen Garraum eintretenden Lichts von einer Türe des Garraums (2) abgewandt ist.
