[origin: WO2015051942A1] The invention relates to a device and a method for determining states of an object which is to be monitored, such as for example, a window or a door. The measurement values of several sensors, in particular a magnetometer and an acceleration sensor are consolidated and evaluated together. In order to determine a new state from a group of predetermined states, only actual possible state transitions are taken into account. State transitions which are not possible and/or which are not allowed are not taken into account.
