[origin: GB2519372A] Disclosed is a labelling apparatus and method, in which a controller sends control signals to a motive means, such that a label web is accelerated in at least two steps up to its normal desirable operating speed. This may prevent a speed overshoot, or oscillations in speed around the desirable speed, which might occur with a single acceleration step, for positional accuracy of labelling. Also disclosed is a labelling apparatus and method, in which a controller sends control signals to a motive means, such that a label web is decelerated to rest, and an encoder sends a position adjustment signal to the motive means, to adjust a final position of the label web. Also disclosed is a labelling apparatus and method, in which a controller sends control signals to a motive means, such that a label web is decelerated to rest at a first position, and in which relaxation of the web displaces the web to a second position past the first.
