[origin: WO2015058863A1] The invention relates to a fixed bed reactor for gasification of fuels, having a grate (3) disposed within the reactor interior (2), with a muffle pipe (12) conducted from above into the reactor interior (2) such that it opens into the reactor interior (2) at a lower muffle pipe end region (72) above the grate (3). According to the invention, the lower muffle pipe end region (72) projects into the reactor interior (2) as a free muffle pipe end region spaced apart from an inner reactor wall (6), with an upper inner reactor wall region (17) surrounding the lower, free muffle pipe end region (72) with a defined spacing, in such a way that an annular gas collecting space (27) surrounding the lower, free muffle pipe end region (72) is formed between the lower, free muffle pipe end region (72) and the upper inner reactor wall region (17), into which the at least one gas outlet (13) opens. It is further preferable that the inner reactor wall (6) narrows in the downward direction toward the grate (3) or toward a grate opening (16), and a lateral ash outlet opening (19) is formed at that point.
