[origin: WO2015067590A1] A handheld machine tool (1) has a tool receiving area (2) for receiving a chiseling tool (4) on a work axis (11), a motor (5), and a striking mechanism (6). The striking mechanism (6) contains a striker (15) which is guided on the work axis (11), an exciter (16) which is periodically driven by the motor (5), and a pneumatic chamber (19) for coupling the movement of the striker (15) to the periodic movement of the exciter (16). The striker (15) strikes the tool (4) or an intermediate striker (31) in a strike direction (12) at the strike point (28). The exciter (16) is driven between a first dead center (26) at a distance from the strike point (28) and a second dead center (26) in the vicinity of the strike point (28). The pneumatic chamber (19) is formed between the striker (15) and an exciter (16) end face (24) facing the striker (15). A housing (34), which is encapsulated in an air-tight manner, has an interior (37) which is closed by an exciter (16) end face (41) facing away from the striker (15). The interior (37) is connected to the pneumatic chamber (19) by a first valve (38) which can be closed by the striker (15). Additionally, the interior (37) is connected to the pneumatic chamber (19) by a second valve (39) which can be closed by the exciter (16). The first valve (38) is arranged in the vicinity of the strike point (28), and the second valve (39) is arranged in the vicinity of the first dead center (26).
