[origin: WO2015071464A1] The invention relates to a method for downloading a video from a video-on-demand server in order to view said video in high quality. A processing unit is used to perform a pre-downloading phase which comprises the following steps: determining the bandwidth of a connection between the server and the processing unit; identifying a video set to be pre-downloaded in accordance with the recommended settings; for each video to be pre-downloaded, determining a portion of said video to be pre-downloaded, said portion being determined in accordance with the bandwidth; for each video to be pre-downloaded, downloading, without viewing, only the portion thus determined. The processing unit is also used to perform a viewing phase which comprises the following steps: in response to a viewing instruction, immediately starting the high-quality viewing of the pre-downloaded portion of a video selected among the pre-downloaded videos; and, in parallel, downloading the portion of the selected video that was not pre-downloaded for viewing in high quality. In the method according to the invention, the portion of the video to be pre-downloaded is determined such that the time for downloading the remaining portion is no longer than the total viewing time of the video.
