[origin: WO2015086251A1] An elevator system (1) comprises a car support (2) which can be displaced in a travel path (3) designed for the car support (2) to travel in. In addition, a first elevator car (10) and a second elevator car (11) which are arranged adjustably on the car support (2), and a drive unit (14) arranged on the car support (2) are provided. Further, an adjustment device (40) is provided which comprises a first traction mechanism (22) and a second traction mechanism (23), which can be wound respectively in opposite directions respectively on a driveable drum (15, 16) of the drive unit (14). The distance (57) between the first elevator car (10) and the second elevator car (11) can be thereby adjusted by rotating the drums (15, 16). By this means, an adaptation to different distances between floors is possible.
