[origin: WO2015106942A1] The building block system comprises a plurality of building blocks (1) in the form of a polyhedron and with substantially smooth side faces (3, 5). Each building block (1) has at least one matrix field (7) with a plurality of planar, magnetically hard magnetic sections (9) arranged about a centre point (13) of the matrix field (7) on at least one of the side faces (3, 5) of the polyhedron, in particular on at least one pair of mutually opposite side faces of the polyhedron. Planar, magnetically soft yoke sections (11) are provided around the centre point (13) of the matrix field (7) between adjacent magnetic sections (9). The magnetic sections (9) and the yoke sections (11) make it possible to magnetically lock building blocks (1) stacked one on the other in any desired three-dimensional arrangement.
