[origin: WO2015110648A1] A combined casting and rolling plant has an upstream part of the plant with a continuous casting installation (1, 2, 4) and a downstream part of the plant with a multi-stand rolling train (6) and, between the two parts of the plant, a pair of shears (11). Starting from the upstream part of the plant, a strand of metal (5) is conveyed via the shears (11) to the downstream part of the plant. In the event of an interruption in production, the strand of metal (5) is separated by means of the shears (11). The strand of metal (5b) in the upstream part of the plant is conveyed further and divided by means of the shears (11) into pieces (14), which are discharged. At the same time, a pivotable roller table section (16) of a roller table (15) arranged downstream of the shears (11) and directly adjacent to the shears (11) is pivoted downwards by an angle (α) about an axis of rotation (y) arranged transversely in relation to the main conveying direction (x). The pieces (14) are transported via the roller table section (16) to a new conveying device (17), which is aligned transversely in relation to the main conveying direction (x) and by means of which they are transported to a collecting station (18), which can also be emptied during the scrapping operation.
