[origin: WO2015110300A1] The invention relates to a device (106) for activating a personal protection means for a vehicle. The device (106) comprises a fuel element chamber (200) containing at least one fuel element which is designed to generate, by combustion, a hot gas for activating the personal protection means, wherein the fuel element chamber (200) has an outlet opening for discharging the hot gas into the personal protection means, and a pressure vessel (202) for storing a pressurized cold gas (504), wherein the pressure vessel (202) has at least one opening (302) for discharging the cold gas (504) in a controlled manner into the fuel element chamber (200).
