[origin: WO2015114242A1] The invention relates to a method for transverse winding of an item (2) around a receiving spool (3), said item (2) extending longitudinally and having two longitudinal edges (2a, 2b), said item (2) being attached by one end to the receiving spool (3), said method consisting of rotating the receiving spool (3) about the axis of rotation thereof so as to wind the item (2) around said receiving spool (3), and of performing a relative movement of said receiving spool (3) relative to said item to be wound transversely, along the axis of rotation of said receiving spool (3) and between a first position in which a first longitudinal edge (2a) of the item (2) is aligned with a first adjacent flank (3a) of the spool (3), and a second position in which the second longitudinal edge (2b) of the item (2) is aligned with the second adjacent flank (3b) of said receiving spool (3) in order to perform the transverse winding operation as such, detecting and measuring at all times, upstream from the receiving spool (3), a transverse shift of the item (2) relative to an original position of said item (2), and correcting, in accordance with the measured shift, the relative movement of the receiving spool (3) relative to the item to be wound transversely in order to compensate for the shift of the item (2) such that in said first and second positions, the longitudinal edges (2a, 2b) of the item (2) are always aligned with the respective adjacent flanks (3a, 3b) of the receiving spool (3).
