[origin: WO2015158445A1] An apparatus and method for sound-based environment detection are proposed. The method comprises the following steps: isolation of a first signal element (sj (t)), which potentially comprises a useful signal, from a received signal (r (t)), isolation of a second signal element (si1 (t)), which is different from the first signal element and potentially comprises an interference signal, from the received signal (r (t)), subtraction of the second signal element (si1 (t)) from the first signal element (sj (t)), and comparison of the difference with a threshold value. This results in the rating of a received signal for whether its quality is suitable for evaluating environment information.
