[origin: WO2015197868A1] The present invention relates to an inspecting unit (6) for a device for inspecting a surface quality, a learning unit for such an inspecting unit (6), a device (1) for inspecting a surface quality, a method for inspecting a surface quality and a computer program product having corresponding computer program means. The problem addressed by the invention is to provide devices (1, 6) and methods (100) for inspecting a surface quality which quickly provide results in a reproducible and reliable manner with moderate demands imposed on the inspecting conditions. For this purpose, an inspecting unit (6) for a device (1) for inspecting a surface quality is proposed, wherein a surface (3) to be inspected is covered with a medium (4), having an input means for receiving an image of the surface (3) which is to be inspected and has the applied medium (4), a texture determination means for determining at least one texture feature of the applied medium (4) on the surface (3) to be inspected in the received image, and an assessment means for assessing the surface quality of the surface (3) to be inspected on the basis of the at least one determined texture feature and for creating an inspection result.
