The determination and control device (4) is configured to set the suction force to a higher value in the determination of the non-contact state than in the determination of the contact state. Die Erfindung betrifft ein Reinigungsgerät (1), insbesondere Haushaltsstaubsauger, mit einem Gebläse (2) und einer Auswerte- und Steuereinrichtung (4) zur Variation einer Saugleistung des Gebläses (2) in Abhängigkeit von einem ermittelten Zuordnungszustand des Reinigungsgerätes (1) zu einer Fläche (3), nämlich einem Kontaktzustand, in welchem das Reinigungsgerät (1) auf die Fläche (3) aufgesetzt ist, oder einem Nonkontaktzustand, in welchem das Reinigungsgerät (1) von der Fläche (3) abgehoben ist. Um ein Reinigungsgerät (1) zu schaffen, mit welchem auch eine flächenferne Reinigungsaufgabe erfolgreich durchgeführt werden kann, wird vorgeschlagen, dass die Auswerte- und Steuereinrichtung (4) eingerichtet ist, die Saugleistung bei Ermittlung eines Nonkontaktzustandes auf einen höheren Betrag einzustellen als bei Ermittlung eines Kontaktzustandes. Des Weiteren betrifft die Erfindung ein Verfahren zum Betrieb eines Reinigungsgerätes (1).
