[origin: WO2016037801A1] The invention relates to a method for standstill monitoring of a movable object, in particular a rail vehicle, with respect to a solid ground, and to a device for carrying out said method in a rail vehicle. The aim of the invention is to devise a reliable method which allows to make sure, without using power, that the rail vehicle remains at a standstill. When the vehicle is at a standstill, no motion-related increase in the roll-off length of a free end of a roll-off cable is detected, the free end being loosely held magnetically perpendicular between the mobile object and the solid ground.
